About us

Hi! We are Miklós and Vivien, the creators of the Szabad madár regenerative farm and the Erdőkerülő manufactory. We have been hunting truffles together since 2019 and also have been homestading. We both dreamed of a place where we have the opportunity to create a regenerative farm and our living space. This is how we ended up in Baranya in 2022, with our horses, dogs, cats and some poultry. We currently live with our two small children at the southern tip of the Zselici hills, on the edge of the Mozsgó vineyard area. Since then, the staff has expanded with alpacas and geese.

We currently farm on about 18 hectares, which we chose because of the diverse plots of the former vineyards, pasture, orchard, arable land and forest. Before we bought it, one of Hungary's oldest organic farms operated on this land, which provides a good basis for the implementation of farming in cooperation with nature.
Since only organic products have been used in the area in recent decades, there are no chemical residues in the soil, but the ecosystem has been degraded due to soil cultivation and overgrazing. In the coming years, we would like to regenerate this pice of land as a habitat for nature and us. Click here and see when is our next open day.

Helka is learning to feed hens

The foundation of our farming enterprise is currently poultry, which follows the horses and alpacas as we rotate through the pastures. The hens sleep in a coop on wheels, which we move every few days to fresh pasture, thus maximizing the nutrient value of the eggs and spreading the manure to improve the soil. The chickens, ducks and geese live in "chicken tractors", which are also regularly moved to fresh areas, providing them with nature's salad bar. During processing, we pay special attention to ensure that the animals experience as little stress as possible. We deliver the poultry whole, ready for cooking.

There are many fruit trees on our farm, which we rejuvenate with gentle methods, without chemicals, and artificial inputs. In addition to apples and pears, which are the most characteristic of the landscape, plums, apricots, quinces, cherries, almonds and countless walnut trees provide us with fruit. In addition, we cultivate a small garden, where we grow a variety of vegetables and herbs primarily for ourselves, but we also offer the surplus for sale.

There is help, if something needs fixing

On the crop fields we follow the principles of soil health, we use cover crops and mintill technology to improve our soil life and as we progress we will adapt our machinery for notill crop production. We grow buckwheat, millet, wheat, peas and various cover crops.

We sell our products directly, to those who care about putting quality food on their table. For us the short supply chain means; food safety, sustainable cooperation between the farmer and the customer. the efficient use of resources during transport, storage and packaging. That's why we started organizing community supported agriculture, so we can supply our community with fresh and local food without waste. You could get to know us personally by visiting our events, and see for yourself the results of our farming methods.

We are working on the development of biodiversity and want to have a life-giving effect on as large an area as we can. An important part of our plans is the retention and utilization of the rainfall coming to our land. Creating ponds and wetlands that can host countless species. You can read more about these as we progress.
